Exhibition text:

The series of works presented in this exhibition were made in parallel to an enquiry into the work of French novelist and writer Alain Robbe-Grillet. Associated with the Nouveau Roman trend, a style of avant-garde French novel that came to prominence in the 1950s, the scenes or settings in Robbe-Grillet’s written works are traced by an excess of fragmented visibilities, descriptions, and repetitions.

The method employed by Robbe-Grillet, whereby his shifting position takes on hallucinatory characteristics demonstrates within written language, it's inability to capture total and complete perspective. Presented in a series of images and excerpts from Robbe-Grillet’s novels Jealousy and In the Labyrinth the exhibition pursues a broader enquiry into the limitations of the photographic medium.
